CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – UPDATE 1/22/20 @ 10 p.m.
A woman says her husband is lucky to be alive after he was shot in the arm while confronting alleged trespassers Tuesday night.

Myron Brumfield and Julius Clagg both face charges in connection with a shooting in the Lesage area of Cabell County, West Virginia.

Three people have been charged in connection with the incident.

The victim, 61-year-old Jerry Short, had surgery on his forearm Wednesday.

"He had an angel watching over him," the victim's wife, Angela Short, told WSAZ.

Annetta says can't believe what she calls an ongoing family dispute has escalated to this level.

"It's over greed," she said. "Everybody is greedy."

Mr. Short told investigators he was checking out his father's property off Fairview Ridge Road in Lesage around 8:30 Tuesday night because he'd gotten a notice by remote cameras somebody was there.

He says when he got there, he found a vehicle at the gate.

Short told deputies he tried to block the suspects in, but they drove around him and fired three shots at his car. One bullet hit him in the arm.

Annetta says the property has been vacant since summer, and they've repeatedly been dealing with trespassing and theft.

"It's gotten out of hand," Annetta said. "Somebody is going to have to stop somewhere. Grow up."

Annetta says there's been an ongoing dispute over who will get the property after Mr. Short's father dies.

The sheriff's department says three people have been charged in connection with the incident, including one juvenile.

They say 18-year-old Julius Clagg is believed to be the shooter. He's charged with malicious wounding. 19-year-old Myron Brumfield is charged with accessory after the fact.

"They're just lucky my husband is alive," Annetta said.

Annetta says the juvenile who was charged is her husband's relative.

She says they'd called police several times over the past few months about trespassing and theft at that property.
