New emergency 'beacons' tested on EKU campus

RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) – The EKU Police Department reported a successful test on Wednesday of their new network of Alertus Beacons.

The alarms allow for quick transmission of information across the university community in the event of emergencies.

EKU police say the beacons have been placed in specific, high-traffic areas around the EKU campus, including Alumni Coliseum, Case Dining Hall, and the Whitlock Building.

The beacons are meant to gain attention from anyone nearby, by transmitting light, sound, and text.
