According to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office, the 911 call came in around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. A woman reported a domestic disturbance in the 600 block of Shadywood Lane in the Browns Creek area just outside of St. Albans.

Investigators say the shooting involved three family members who all live at the home where it happened.

Thomas Parish, 44, was shot and killed. Investigators say Parish was shot by his sister-in-law, Serenity Metz, 21.

Sheriff's deputies say Parish was allegedly strangling his wife, Aubrey Parish, 29, when Aubrey's sister came into the room to try to break up the fight. That's when Metz shot Thomas, according to the sheriff's office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is still underway and no arrests have been made at this time. The Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney's Office will determine if any charges will be filed.

"It is being presented like a self-defense type of situation, someone acting actually in defense of someone else," Sgt. B.D. Humphreys said Tuesday. "But always there are a lot of questions that we have to answer and find out what is actually the truth of the matter before we can say that this is actually what occurred."
