MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- UPDATE 12/9/19 @ 2:30 p.m.
Investigators have released the name of a teenager killed during a crash in Mason County.
The Mason County Sheriff tells WSAZ that Jacob Cochran, 19, of Poca was the passenger in the car and pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The crash happened just after 4:30 a.m. Sunday on state Route 62 in the Hartford area.
"He was kind and free-spirited," said Kiana Carroll, one of Jacob's friends. "He would've given his shirt off his back to anyone that needed it."
Friends of Jacob say he was a great friend and losing him was unimaginable.
"He was just the life of the party, there's no other way to describe it," said Jonah Cline, a friend of Jacob's. "He was just a good friend to have, he'd help anybody."
"He was just the type of guy that would do stuff to make people laugh," Carroll tells WSAZ. "He just didn't care as long as it made somebody happy or laugh, he was doing it."
Officials say the man behind the wheel was flown to the hospital Sunday. There's no update on his condition at this time.
Deputies are still investigating, but say it appears the driver lost control while negotiating a turn.
