Elderly man shot and killed by relative; name released

The name of an elderly man who died in a weekend shooting has been released.

Jacob A. Smith, 80, died in the incident that happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Lick Branch Road in Kanawha County, according to county sheriff's deputies say.

Smith suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigators say the man who fired the shot is 50 years old and resided with the victim. Prosecutors are deciding if charges should be filed.

The men were relatives, according to investigators.

It's unknown what led up to the shooting.
