LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- One person is dead and another was flown to the hospital after a tractor trailer collided with a car Sunday afternoon.
The Louisa Police Department says it happened just after 4 p.m. when the tractor trailer was driving North on U.S. 23 near the intersection of HWY 3. That is when they say the truck hit the 2000 Buick Lesabre on the passenger side as it was driving North on HWY 3, sending it off the road and into a utility pole.
According to Lawrence County Emergency Management, both people in the car were trapped inside and had to be cut out with the Jaws of Life by the Louisa Fire Department.
The driver of the car, Lenwood Howell of Louisa, Kentucky, was flown to Saint Mary's Hospital for a head injury and possible internal injuries.
Police say the passenger, Cora Howell also of Louisa, Kentucky, was taken to Three Rivers Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
They say the driver of the tractor-trailer wasn't hurt and refused treatment.
Police say that the tractor trailer caused the collision by driving through a red light. The driver was cited for disregarding a traffic control device.
