CHARLESTON W.Va. (WSAZ) -- UPDATE 7/10/19 @ 6:15 p.m.
A murder investigation in South Charleston took police to Charleston to search for evidence in the case.
Investigators with the South Charleston Police Department searched along the Elk River in Charleston Wednesday for a murder weapon.
South Charleston police and Kanawha County Sheriff's deputies on Wednesday were along Barlow Drive in Charleston, searching for evidence in a murder case from July 3.
Investigators searched along the banks of the Elk River and sent divers into the river, searching for a murder weapon.
According to investigators, talking with different witnesses led them to the area Wednesday after they learned the weapon may have been tossed over the river bank.
The crews endured heat and muddy water in the river to search. They didn't end up finding the weapon, but South Charleston police say they did find some other items.
"It's just doing everything you can to put together the best case and gathering everything you can," said Capt. P.C. Rader with South Charleston Police. "It's what we call our due diligence. If we get information that an item or piece of evidence has been tossed here, or there, or wherever, we start back-tracking and trying to verify information. If it seems like it is good information, of course, we want to again do our due diligence and see if we can locate evidence or witnesses or anything. That way, we can put together a solid, air-tight case."
Investigators say they will keep following up on leads in the case and will keep searching for evidence.
The weapon they were searching for was in connection to a shooting that happened July 3.
Joshua Harrison is facing murder charges in the case, accused of shooting and killing Thomas Lloyd. Lloyd was found dead in a home on Ridge Drive in the Spring Hill neighborhood.
Harrison is expected to be back in court July 16 for a preliminary hearing.
