The Pomeroy-Mason Bridge re-opened a little before 3 Friday morning, after crews completed inspecting potential damage from a runaway barge Thursday night on the Ohio River.

The Mason Police Chief said it's believed one barge hit a bridge pillar on the Pomeroy side and continued floating downriver. At least nine barges total broke loose in the Hartford area. Mason County 911 says all of the barges have been collected as far away as Lakin, which is nearly 9 miles from where the barges broke loose.

A Division of Highways crew arrived late Thursday and inspected the bridge. Visually, no damage was apparent, but crews performed a further inspection to be sure the span is safe.

Earlier in the evening, Meigs County (Ohio) Sheriff Keith Wood reported that some of the runaway barges were going sideways down the river.
