UPDATE: Power restored in part of Kanawha Co. after mylar balloon incident
NITRO, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Power has been restored late Tuesday night to all 155 Appalachian Power customers in the Nitro/Cross Lanes area, AEP reports.
It happened earlier in the evening when mylar balloons got caught in power lines, causing a circuit breaker to trip.
The outage affected several businesses in the Nitro Marketplace, among others.
NITRO, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An Appalachian Power spokesman says mylar balloons got caught in power lines, causing a power outage affecting more than 150 people.
Phil Moye with AEP says the balloons caused the circuit breaker to trip.
Moye says that several business in the Nitro Marketplace are without power as a result.
One hundred fifty-five customers are affected by the outage at this time.
Moye says power should be back on soon. Moye also says this serves as a reminder to not let mylar (foil) balloons go by power lines.
Metro 911 reported after the initial incident that power should be back on by 11 p.m. Tuesday.

According to Kanawha County Metro 911, the "power outage is in the area of New Goff Mountain Road and Lakeview Drive in Cross Lanes. This outage is affecting the Nitro Marketplace hill. Estimated restoration is approximately 11 p.m. tonight (Tuesday)."
According to the AEP website, 155 customers are affected.
At this point it is not clear if any businesses are affected at the Nitro Marketplace or what the cause of the outage is.
