HURRICANE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Hurricane High School athletic trainer and EMS responders were honored Monday night at Hurricane City Council for saving a student's life in November.

Andrew Parks also was there in person to thank all those who came to his rescue a few months ago.

Brian Sigman and the EMS responders rushed to the scene where Parks, who is a freshman, went into cardiac arrest while working out in the school's gym.

"You don't have much time to react," Sigman said. "You have minutes; seconds are life savers, and my instincts just jumped in and just kinda went along with it until EMS arrived, and they did an amazing job."

Andrew was diagnosed with a rare heart condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
