Semi crashes into fire rescue truck, sending firefighter to the hospital

SMITHS GROVE, KY (WSAZ)-- A firefighter is in the hospital after Kentucky State Police say a semi truck crashed into a Smiths Grove Fire Department rescue truck and two firemen.

The crash happened on I-65 Southbound near mile marker 38 around 6:30 Saturday morning,

Troopers say Smiths Grove Fire Department had responded to the area of the 38 mile marker southbound on I-65 in reference to multiple collisions in the area due to the icy road conditions.

Police say a semi truck driving by lost control of his semi and struck a fire rescue truck that was on the shoulder of the roadway with their emergency equipment activated.

According to Kentucky State Police, the semi truck then separated from the trailer and overturned, striking Chief Kenneth Priddy and Assistant Chief Steven Wilson with the Smiths Grove Fire Department.

Asst. Chief Steven Wilson was transported to the Medical Center in Bowling Green for non-life threatening injuries.

Chief Priddy was not injured in the collision.

Kentucky state police say the investigation is still ongoing.
