LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- In the last week, the Logan County Sheriff's Department seized six horses from two different residences. Volunteers said horses at both locations passed away before rescuers could make it to them.

"It was very nasty. It was very muddy and full of manure and no food," horse rescue group Heart of Phoenix officer Sandy Sunday said. "It was just deplorable."

Sunday owns the stable where the horses currently reside. She said their condition was startling and she's surprised the horses who made it to her barn are all still living.

Heart of Phoenix President Tinia Creamer told WSAZ there are charges in both cases.
