LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- State Route 93 is back open Monday night after a head-on crash earlier in the day that sent three people to the hospital, including a young boy who was flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
"I've lived out here most of my life and have seen people take these chances all the time out here passing in bad curves, double yellow lines, and on occasion you have this happen," Decatur Fire Chief Gene Cox said.
Ronnie Cox lives across from where the wreck happened and says far too many lives have been claimed on Route 93.
"I think in the last three years there've been around 20-some people killed on this road from Jackson to Ironton," Ronnie, who is also a Decatur trustee, said. "That's a high number. Speeding is not a good thing on this highway."
LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- More details have been released about a head-on crash that sent three people to the hospital Monday afternoon.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers say it involved a green car headed south on state Route 93 and a black SUV headed north.
The driver of the car attempted to pass a tractor-trailer, ran out of room and struck the SUV. It happened near mile-marker 17.
The SUV was pushed up against the semi and flipped onto its side, and the semi was pushed into a guardrail.
The woman driving the SUV and two children inside of it were taken to the hospital, including a boy who was flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital.
The roadway remained closed at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
A reconstruction team at the scene will share findings with the prosecutor who will determine if any charges will be filed.
There is a passing zone just north of the crash site.
