UPDATE | Name released of suspect in fatal officer-involved shooting in Roane County

ROANE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - UPDATE 2/23/19 @ 12:30 p.m.

Roane County Sherrif's Department has released the name of the suspect killed in Friday's officer involved shooting.

Deputies say 28-year-old Timothy Rhodes of Looneyville was killed in an officer-involved shooting near Walton.

Roane County Sheriff Todd Cole said the suspect was shot after he tried to get the deputy's firearm. The sheriff said deputies responded to a call about a car spinning its tires in a driveway, throwing rocks into a nearby home.

The deputy ordered the man to stop when he drove off. A woman who was a passenger got out of the car and got on the ground. The man was ordered to do the same thing, but he didn't comply.

When the deputy attempted to put the man into handcuffs, he struggled and tried to get the firearm, Cole said.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. Friday along Ambler Ridge Road.

A suspect is being transported with unknown injuries after an officer-involved shooting Friday evening.

The shooting took place around 5:30 p.m. on Ambler Ridge Road, near Walton, West Virginia.

According to West Virginia State Police, a Roane County Sheriff's deputy fired the shots. No officers were injured during the incident. At this time, troopers are assisting in processing the scene.

It is not currently known what the situation was that led to the shooting, but we have a crew at the scene and will update you as soon as we learn more.
