UPDATE: Turnpike back open after tractor trailer crash

UPDATE 10/3/16 @ 11:30 a.m.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- According to Turnpike Police, all lanes of the Turnpike at the 95 mile marker are back open.

They were closed after a tractor trailer accident this morning.

WVSP says the driver fell asleep at the wheel. A passenger in the sleeper area of the cab was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

UPDATE 10/3/16 @ 6:30 a.m.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Emergency crews say the driver of a semi-truck that overturned and crashed into a guardrail along I-77 north was not injured.

However, a passenger was inside the sleeper area of the cab and was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

The driver told West Virginia State Police that he feel asleep at the wheel.

Crews are working to remove a shipment of insulin from the tractor trailer so they can remove it from the interstate.

They believe the scene will be cleared and both lanes of traffic open within a few hours.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- One lane of I-77 North is closed after a tractor trailer crashed early Monday morning.

A tractor trailer turned on its side about 3 Monday morning at the 94 milemarker of I-77 North. That's near Kanawha City.

First responders tell WSAZ the driver says he fell asleep at the wheel and woke up as the truck was sliding on its side.

The truck was carrying insulin. That load will have to be removed from the truck and loaded onto another truck before the scene can be cleared.
