KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two major sports events are coming to the new Shawnee Sports Complex.

The Kanawha County Commission announced a partnership Tuesday with the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Youth football tournaments will take place in Kanawha County in 2018 and 2019.

The first West Virginia Youth Football Championship tournament will be at the sports complex from Nov. 23 to 25. Any youth football team in the state with players ages 7 to 14 can participate. The deadline to register is Nov. 9 -- you can register and get more information at www.shawneesports.com.

In 2019, the Shawnee Sports Complex will host the regional Pro Football Hall of Fame Youth Tournament. It will include as many as 48 teams. Seven teams will go to the Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio for the championships.

Kanawha County Commissioner Ben Salango said, “We are thrilled to announce a partnership with the Pro football Hall of Fame. The new facilities at Shawnee Park are attracting the very best youth tournaments to Kanawha County. We can’t wait to host these players and their families.”

Commission President Kent Carper added, “Before the first game is played we have achieved unbelievable success. The benefit of the new Shawnee Sports Complex to the citizens of Kanawha County is huge and has been grossly underestimated to date.”
