UPDATE 6/3/2017 @ 7:30 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Family and friends of Kara Jeffrey spent Saturday afternoon hanging missing person signs throughout the community. Jeffrey has not been seen in over a month, and West Virginia State Police believe she is in "extreme danger."

The 21-year-old was last seen in Huntington, West Virginia May 1. She is from Barboursville but had been living in Fairmont.

WVSP say Jeffrey was last seen near Route 75, where she was visiting a friend. That was on May 1, the same time that Jeffrey told her parents that she was moving home. Jeffrey's cell phone has been inactive since the last day she was seen.

"Didn't call mom on Mother's Day... that was huge and totally out of character for her," brother Nick Jeffrey said Saturday afternoon. "So at this point it's been 34 days since anyone's heard from her, anyone can account for her whereabouts. We're just looking for any information. Someone out there knows something and they haven't come forward yet."

West Virginia State Police believe Jeffrey could be with a man who has used the alias "Jeff Cooper," although troopers do not believe that is his real name. The man's photo is included in the gallery with this story.

"Right now we're just following up on every lead that's coming our way," father Jim Jeffrey told WSAZ Saturday afternoon. "We're convinced somebody has something out there that is that one important piece of information that's gonna help solve this."

West Virginia State Police tell WSAZ they are searching for Jeffrey, as well as the unknown man, in several states.

Jeffrey is described as having an athletic build. She is 5 feet 4 inches and weighs 140 pounds.

Anyone with information about Jeffrey or her whereabouts is asked to call WVSP Cpl. Isaac Harmon at (304) 290-4002 or Sgt. Sally Hatten at (304) 633-6261.

UPDATE 5/18/17 @ 6 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A missing woman from northern West Virginia, last seen in Huntington, is believed to be in "extreme danger," according to West Virginia State Police.

Kara Jeffrey, 21, is from Barboursville but has been living in Fairmont.

Troopers say she was last seen and heard from on May 1 when she visited a friend near state Route 75.

Troopers believe she could be with Jeff Cooper, who they don't believe is from the area. That man’s photo is included in the gallery with this story.

Jeffrey's parents say they have not heard from her since the first of May, when she told them she was moving home.

"Kara's really got a heart of gold and is always looking out for other people, and I think somewhere along the line people have seen that and taken advantage of that," Terry Jeffrey, Kara's mom, told WSAZ.

Jeffrey was playing soccer at Fairmont State University until her parents say she ran into the wrong crowd.

"We saw a change in Kara's attitude when she had a change in friends, and all of the sudden she just started drifting off and had a different attitude towards things," Jim Jeffrey, Kara's dad, said. "I think she has just been influenced by some people."

Jeffrey was arrested in February on drug charges. That's after police tried to perform a traffic stop on Jeff Cooper, the man she is believed to be with, who fled the scene, nearly striking an officer, according to a criminal complaint.

"Just hearing that she's okay and we can work through all the other issues, we don't know what we have to face but we're willing to face those with her and help her through this," Jim Jeffrey said. "She's young, she's got a lot of potential, nobody's giving up on her."

"She's been preyed upon and she's been taken from us," Terry Jeffrey said.

Jeffrey is described as having an athletic build. She's 5 feet 4 and weighs 140 pounds.

Troopers say she could be in another state at this point.

Anyone with information about Jeffrey or her whereabouts is asked to call WVSP Cpl. Isaac Harmon at (304) 290-4002 or Sgt. Sally Hatten at (304) 633-6261.
