W.Va. Supreme Court justice facing possible impeachment releases statement

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- One of the justices at the center of an impeachment investigation released a statement about the allegations Thursday.

Justice Elizabeth Walker's legal team released the following statement:

“Since joining the Court in 2017, Beth has been nothing but fair to everyone who has come before her. The House of Delegates has an important job to do, and we trust that they will be equally fair to Beth in reviewing all the facts before moving forward on any articles against her.”

A proposal to impeach all justices on the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia was introduced in a House committee Tuesday. Now, the articles of impeachment will go to the full House for consideration.

Two of those articles involve Justice Walker. One alleges that all four remaining justices on the bench (Justice Walker, Chief Justice Margaret Workman, Justice Allen Loughry, and Justice Robin Davis) wasted state funds on unnecessary and lavish spending for things like office renovations, traveling, home office equipment, and lunches. The other article also pertains to spending, but mentions Walker specifically. It states she spent $131,000 on remodeling her office, despite the fact that he was largely remodeled less than seven years prior.
