UPDATE | Woman indicted on murder, sex abuse charges

ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) – UPDATE 6/17/19 @ 6:24 p.m.
A grand jury has indicted a suspect accused of sexually assaulting and killing a woman in St. Albans.

Courtney Wallace, 21, was indicted on charges of murder and first-degree sexual abuse. Both are felonies.

Wallace is accused of stabbing and killing Cherri Simpson. According to police, Wallace was a friend of Simpson's daughter.

The stabbing happened Thursday, Jan. 17 at a home in the 2700 block of Furlong Avenue in St. Albans.

Simpson suffered stab wounds to her front and rear torso. Investigators say Wallace also sexually assaulted the victim.

The victim was taken to Thomas Memorial Hospital where she died from her injuries.

More details have been released in a deadly stabbing, including the victim's and suspect's names.

Courtney Wallace, 21, faces first-degree murder and first-degree sexual abuse charges in the death of Cherri Simpson, Kanawha County court records show.

Simpson was stabbed just before 5 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 2700 block of Furlong Avenue. According to the criminal complaint, Simpson suffered stab wounds to her front and rear torso. She was taken to Thomas Memorial Hospital where she died from her injuries.

According to the criminal complaint, Wallace also sexually assaulted the victim.

She was taken to the South Central Regional Jail. She is being held without bond.

A woman is dead after a stabbing at a home in St. Albans.

St. Albans Police say it happened just before 5 p.m. Thursday in the 2700 block of Furlong Avenue.

Police say the victim was stabbed more than once by a friend of her daughter's following an argument. The victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, where she later died.

Police had a struggle with the suspect when they arrived. The suspect and the victim's daughter were taken into police custody for questioning. It is unclear what charges the suspect will face.

"We've been to this address before, the public is not in danger," Police Chief Joe Crawford said. "It's kind of a domestic type situation, so now we're just following up on all the leads and interviewing all the witnesses or potential witnesses, trying to figure out what happened. We don't know what the argument was over."

Two women are being questioned by police Thursday following a stabbing at a home in St. Albans.

It was reported just before 5 p.m. in the 2700 block of Furlong Avenue.

St. Albans Police say the victim was stabbed by a friend of her daughter's. Police had a struggle with the suspect when they arrived following an argument.

It is not clear what charges, if any, the women will face.

Detectives spent time in the house where the incident happened looking for evidence.

A woman was critically injured Thursday in a stabbing that landed another woman in jail, the St. Albans Police Chief says.

It was reported just before 5 p.m. in the 2700 block of Furlong Avenue.

Police say a “scuffle” led up to the stabbing.

No names have been released at this point.
