UPDATE 5/15/18 @ 11:58 a.m.

Deputies say a woman accused of severely injuring her husband with a pool ball is in custody.

Girdie Ann Kazee turned herself in to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office Tuesday morning.

She is accused of hitting her ex-husband with a pool ball inside of a sock. The dispute is allegedly over a pet chihuahua.

A friend says several people were at the ex-husband's home on James Lane in Inez Saturday afternoon.

"She was happy-go-lucky, smiling, laughing, but about 10 minutes before it happened, she got really quiet," friend of the victim Keishian Bowan said.

Friends say Girdie and her ex-husband had argued since their divorce over who should get to keep a pet chihuahua.

Bowan says the ex-husband was about to step outside while holding the dog.

"He said 'I'm just going outside to play with the baby,' and Girdie said 'You're not taking my dog,' and she hit him behind his right ear with a pool ball inside of a pink and white sock."

She says the ex-wife then grabbed the dog and took off running into the woods behind a cemetery next to the home.

The Martin County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene, but they couldn't find her.

Deputy Sheriff Jerry Todd says this is the first case he's worked involving a pool ball used as a weapon.

Kazee arrived at the sheriff's office with her dog and said someone told her law enforcement was looking for her.

Sheriff's deputies have the dog right now. It's unclear who will take possession of it.

UPDATE 5/14/18 @ 10 p.m.

Deputies are looking for a woman after they say she severely injured her ex-husband with an unconventional weapon.

Friends say Girdie Ann Kazee and her ex-husband had argued since their divorce over who should get to keep a pet chihuahua.

"I love my dogs more than anything, but I would never attack someone that cold-heartedly," friend of the victim Keishian Bowan said.

Bowan says Saturday afternoon, several people, including Kazee, were in the ex-husband's home on James Lane in Inez.

"She was happy-go-lucky, smiling, laughing, but about 10 minutes before it happened, she got really quiet," Bowan said.

She says the ex-husband was about to step outside while holding the dog, when Kazee cued up an irrationally violent action with an unusual makeshift weapon.

"I've never seen someone that unathletic run that fast," Bowan said.

The Martin County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene, but they couldn't find her.

Deputy Sheriff Jerry Todd says this is the first case he's worked involving a pool ball used as a weapon.

The victim has been released from the hospital.

"He stays dizzy, and he can't hardly stay awake," Bowan said. "He can't tell who he is or where he's at."

Bowan added that the victim is broken-hearted over the dog, named Baby, being taken.

Todd says Kazee will be charged with second degree assault and theft for taking the dog.
