Mason County Teacher Charged with Sexual Abuse

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A school teacher in Mason County was arraigned Thursday afternoon on charges of sexual abuse.

Curtis Kimble faces 31 counts. Kimble teaches at Hannan High School in the mornings and Ashton Elementary School in the afternoons.

Police say the majority of the alleged abuse happened between 1982 and 1990, with one count dating back to 1980. In one of the alleged incidents, police say the abuse happened in a classroom at Hannan High School.

"I've been wrongly accused. That's all I want to say," Kimble said after leaving court Thursday.

Kimble's bond was set at $500,000. He has been a teacher in Mason County for about 28 years.

Now that he's been formally charged, Mason County Superintendent Dr. Larry Parsons says the school board will discuss any disciplinary action against Kimble Friday.

"It is disappointing and I don't think it's a negative reflection on our school system, at least what's going on today to make children safe," Dr. Parsons said. "And we do take swift action and do not take these allegations lightly."
