UPDATE: Victim's Name Released in I-77 Fatal Crash in Sissonville

SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies have released the name of the person killed in the crash along I-77 in Sissonville.

The crash was reported about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday near the Tuppers Creek exit.

According to the news release, the driver of a semi was headed north when he lost control and went into the median and hit a car headed south on the driver's side.

Deputies say Cody Lynch, 20, Charleston, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in the car was taken to CAMC General where the person remains in serious condition.

The driver of the semi says his windshield began to fog and he was trying to adjust the defrost controls when he left the road.

He was also taken to the hospital with a head injury.

Deputies say Lynch was not wearing his seatbelt.

The semi was hauling fruit.

The interstate was closed for several hours before reopening at 3:15 a.m. Thursday.

The crash is still under investigation.

SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A 911 dispatcher tells WSAZ that all southbound lanes of I-77 in Sissonville are back open.

They were shut down after a crash involving a tractor-trailer and a car near the Tuppers Creek exit.

The driver of the car was killed. A passenger in the car and the truck driver were taken to the hospital with injuries.

SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- One lane of I-77 Southbound has re-opened Thursday morning near the Tuppers Creek Exit following a fatal crash.

It happened near the 111-mile marker. One person was killed, two others were hurt. One of the vehicles involved is a tractor-trailer that was northbound and crossed the median.

The tractor-trailer collided with a southbound car. The driver of that car was killed.

A passenger in the car, as well as the semi driver, were taken to the hospital.

The crash was reported just after 9:15 Wednesday night.

It is unclear how long it will take the other lane to re-open.

SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- One person is dead Wednesday night in a crash that has closed all lanes of Interstate 77 South near the 111-mile marker, Kanawha County Sheriff's deputies at the scene say.

Two other people were hurt. One of the vehicles involved is a tractor-trailer that was northbound and crossed the median.

The tractor-trailer collided with a southbound car. The driver of that car was killed.

A passenger in the car, as well as the semi driver, were taken to the hospital.

The crash was reported just after 9:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The road is expected to be closed for some time, and motorists are urged to avoid the area.

Cars were being diverted off the southbound side at the Pocatalico exit. Tractor-trailers are not being allowed to take the detour.

The southbound lanes could be closed until early Thursday morning as the investigation continues.
