Flames Destroy Vacant Home in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A home is destroyed after a fire Saturday evening.

Fire crews from Institute and Tyler Mountain responded to a home on Washington Street West just after 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators say when they arrived, there were flames shooting through the roof and the home was engulfed.

Firefighters tell WSAZ no one was inside the home at the time.

We're also told the owner told investigators the home was vacant but had power.

Fire crews say as many as 5,000 gallons of water had to be used to put out the fire.

Firefighters say they weren't able to go inside the home to investigate because of significant damage.

Crews tell WSAZ the State Fire Marshal's Office will take over the investigation.
