BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- School isn't back in session yet, but Thursday morning some students in Boyd Cunty were lining up at 7 a.m., waiting for the school doors to open.
Parents and children of the Boyd County school system were given free school supplies, clothes, food and hygiene items to get them ready for the school year.
It's all part of the "Readifest" program that is designed to take the worry out of preparing for school and allowing parents and students to focus on the learning experience, according to Ruth Chaney with the Boyd County Youth Services.
More than 50 percent of the families in Boyd County are eligible for free and reduced lunch so today's Readifest helped more than 200 families in the county.
Mindy Steele is a mom with two kids and says this program is a huge help in getting her kids ready for school.
"It really helps because gas and bills are really high and like I said I'm the only one with an income in the home an when you have more than one kid its double so it's really hard," said Steele.
School supplies are also available throughout the school year for those students who qualify.
