Marshall names Campbell new swimming and diving coach
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Marshall University has announced the hiring of the school’s new swimming and diving coach.
Phoebe Campbell joins Marshall after serving as an assistant coach at the University of Akron, where she helped the Zips to a fifth consecutive Mid-American Conference championship.
Campbell has prior experience with the swimming and diving programs at the University of New Mexico, Texas A&M and Vasser College.
“I want to thank athletic director Gerald Harrison and president Brad Smith for believing in my ability to lead the women’s swimming and diving team,” Campbell said in a release Thursday.
“I am committed to adding to the rich history of Marshall University and the excellence of the student-athletes. I am humbled and excited by this amazing opportunity to work with people so committed to the success and well-being of their student-athletes. The tight-knit community that Marshall is known for makes this an easy place to call home.”
Campbell takes over for Ian Walsh, who resigned from Marshall to become the head swimming coach at the University of Pittsburgh.
Marshall Athletics announced plans to cut the swim and dive program in February, then reversed course in March to reinstate the program.
Campbell will be formally introduced at a press conference on June 30.
