Police: Man livestreams his own high-speed chase; pursuit ends in crash
MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A man police say led them on a high-speed multi-county chase is in the hospital after that pursuit ended Friday in a crash.
Law enforcement officials say Justin Coyle livestreamed the pursuit online. It started in Barboursville, eventually crossing into Mason County where a deputy picked up the chase. Police say Coyle reached speeds more than 100 mph. Deputies tried to block the road and deflate his tires but say Coyle swerved past and nearly hit a deputy.
Police say a deputy was able to block U.S. 35 right before the Silver Memorial Bridge, and Coyle crashed into a guardrail. Police say he refused to get out of his stopped vehicle so they broke the glass of his vehicle and dragged him out.
Coyle sustained minor injuries to the head and was taken to the hospital. He is facing multiple felony charges and attempted murder.
During the chase, schools and businesses went into lockdown. No officers were injured.
Investigators say Coyle was a fugitive from Morgan County, West Virginia, who was wanted on a circuit court bench warrant.
He was taken to the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville.
