CLARK COUNTY, Ind. (WAVE/Gray News) - A Georgia man was arrested after initiating a police chase with two children in the car.

According to the Indiana State Police, on Oct. 11, at around 6:30 p.m., an officer was patrolling on Interstate 65 just north of Sellersburg when he saw a blue Jeep Cherokee approaching.

The officer clocked the Jeep driving southbound at 115 mph in a 70 mph zone, prompting him to initiate a traffic stop.

Despite the officer pursuing the Jeep, the driver, 35-year-old Michael Anthony Tapia of Georgia, continued driving south at a high rate of speed.

Eventually, Tapia took the exit to Sellersburg and then ran the stop sign at the bottom of the ramp and continued to drive recklessly around other vehicles before taking the ramp to I-65 northbound.

Tapia then pulled over to the side of the road and was taken into custody.

During the traffic stop, officers found two children in the car.

Tapia is being charged with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and reckless driving. He is currently being held at the Clark County Jail.
