UPS identifies crew killed in Louisville plane crash
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE/Gray News) - UPS has released the identities of the three crew members who lost their lives after Tuesday’s plane crash near Louisville Muhammad Ali Airport.
UPS Flight 2976 crashed after attempting to depart from Louisville SDF airport on Tuesday.
Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt and International Relief Officer Captain Dana Diamond were those onboard the flight, according to UPS.
“Our hearts go out to every UPSer who has been impacted and all in our Louisville community – supporting you and ensuring you receive the care and resources you need is our priority," the company shared in a statement.

Officials said 13 fatalities have been announced, including the three crew members, but the death toll could still rise.
“This continues to be an incredibly sad time for our entire UPS family. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of our colleagues, and to the loved ones of those in the Louisville community,” the company statement concluded.
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg described the crash scene as “horrific,” with charred, mangled metal and smoke still seen rising from piles of debris.
“You hear people say, ‘Oh, you only see that in the movies.’ This was worse than the movies,” The Associated Press quoted Greenberg as telling reporters.
UPS Worldport operations resumed on Wednesday night, but the on-scene investigation continues, as the community will also hold a vigil on Thursday, remembering those lives lost.
