Assistant Principal completes sports-themed “Jersey Journey”

FORT GAY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - An assistant principal in Wayne County took a joke about his sports jersey collection, and turned into teachable moments for the students at his school.

Friday, Fort Gay PreK-8 Assistant Principal Dr. Shawn Ross completed a year-long lesson, wearing a different sports jersey to school every day for the entire school year.

Dr. Ross wore a mixture of college, pro and high school jerseys across various sports. He used the “Jersey Journey” to ask questions to the students about the schools, communities, teams and regions each jersey represented.

Students who answered correctly got a picture with the jersey for the school’s social media page. Dr. Ross reached out to a number of universities and professional organizations throughout the country. Many of those schools sent items such as pennants and even some game-used items to be displayed along with the jersey of the day.
