St. Albans collecting flood relief donations for West Virginia counties
ST ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) - The city of St. Albans is collecting donations for residents affected by severe weather and flash flooding in Lewis, Pleasants, and Upshur counties.
Heavy rain caused flooding in those three counties Tuesday. The city is accepting cleaning supplies, bottled water, rubber boots, and non-perishable foods.
Donations are being accepted behind the main fire station on 6th Avenue. St. Albans Mayor Scott James said the drop-off location is open to surrounding communities.
“It’s for Nitro, Dunbar, South Charleston, any surrounding community that doesn’t have an area to drop off. They can drop off right here behind the main fire station on 6th Avenue in St. Albans,” James said.
Donations will be accepted until 10 a.m. Friday, July 24. If no one is present at the fire station when donors arrive, James said to call 304-382-6850 and someone will assist.
“We’ve already got donations started. And, you know, so we’re doing what neighbors do. You know, we take care of each other in time of need. So that’s why we’re doing this,” James said.
James said the effort reflects how West Virginians respond to those in need.
“If we were in that same situation, I would expect others to come to our assistance. And that’s what West Virginians do. We come to the aid of those that are in need,” he said.
