VINTON COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) - A competency hearing was held for Gary Siders Sr. in Vinton County Wednesday, where a judge found him incompetent to stand trial.

In June 16 children were rescued from a home in Vinton County, resulting in the arrests of four family members.

The children were rescued from a home in the Hamden area of Vinton County after a search warrant led by the BCI.

During their search, four family members were arrested -- Gary Siders Sr., Gary Siders Jr., Elizabeth Siders, and Christina Siders.

Gary Siders Sr., 73, the children’s grandfather, was indicted on 16 charges, including:

  • 10 third-degree felony counts of endangering children
  • Six misdemeanor counts of endangering children

A judge previously signed an order directing an evaluation to see if Gary Siders Sr. is “not guilty by reason of insanity” and if he is “competent to stand trial,” according to court documents.
