CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey on Thursday signed a more than $5 billion budget bill, passed last week by the state Legislature, with some objections for the upcoming fiscal year.

Saturday is the final day of the legislative session.

Lawmakers could use that time to come back on some of the things the governor disagreed with in his line-item vetoes.

Some of the governor’s priorities, he said, were secured in the budget -- with more than $275 million to fully fund the HOPE Scholarship Program and millions to improve West Virginia’s roads and infrastructure, as well as a 3 percent pay raise for state employees.

“The difficult decisions we made last year to start addressing the state’s long term financial liabilities paid off,” Morrisey said in a news release. “Our success last year in reducing base program expenditures helped give us the fiscally prudent budget I signed today.”
