UPDATE | Bar surrenders liquor license following deadly shooting of teenager

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- UPDATE 8/15/19 @ 12:13 p.m.
A bar in Huntington surrendered its liquor license following the nearby deadly shooting of a teenager. Police say a fight started in the bar that led to the shooting outside.

The incident started with a fight at the Hot Corner Bar in the 1400 block of 4th Avenue in Huntington. Police say the shooting happened later, after the people involved left the bar.

Officials with the West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Administration tell WSAZ the Hot Corner Bar surrendered its license after the WVABCA suspended it last week.

Police say the bar is where a fight started on Sunday, Aug. 4. Tyler Asbury, 19, was shot outside of the bar. He died later that evening from his injuries.

Officers are investigating the case as a homicide.

The Huntington Police Department has not released any updated information on any suspects or arrests in the case.

UPDATE 8/6/19 @ 12 p.m.
The West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Administration (WVABCA) suspended the liquor license for a bar in Huntington.

The Hot Corner Bar is in the 1400 block of 4th Avenue. Police say that's where a fight started that led to a shooting outside of the bar.

WVABCA officials tell WSAZ the liquor license was suspended for 10 days, effective Monday, Aug. 5.

It is standard protocol to suspend a bar's license following an incident like this, WVABCA officials said. The administration is working with local authorities. Then, the WVABCA commissioner will decide on further action.

Tyler Asbury, 19, was shot outside of the bar early Sunday morning. He died Sunday evening from his injuries.

A family is sharing their grief after their loved one was shot and killed over the weekend in Huntington.

Tyler Asbury, 19, was shot outside of a bar early Sunday morning. He died Sunday evening from his injuries.

Tyler's mother and brother are remembering him as a fun-loving young man who loved to spend most of his time outside.

"He loved the outdoors," said Jennifer Morgan, his mother. "He loved to fish. He loved to hunt. He was great at racing dirt bikes. He was amazing."

Tyler's brother, Eric, is 4 years older -- always the protective big brother. His mom says Tyler always looked up to him.

"Me and Tyler fought a lot when we were younger," said his brother. "But we were really close. As we got older, we only got closer. After I moved back here, he and I were best friends. We did everything together."

Tyler's family says he had a smile that could light up a room.

His grandmother, Sharon Asbury, says his family was always so proud of his accomplishments and that he loved his family and friends more than anything.

They say he was a loving son, brother, grandson, uncle and friend. He and his girlfriend had been together for several years.

All of them agree that Tyler has left behind a void that cannot be filled.

"Hardest thing I've ever had to go through," said Morgan. "It's hard to pick up the pieces. How do you move on?"

Huntington Police have not released any updated information on any suspects or arrests in the case.

Monday afternoon, police released the name of the victim of a shooting in Huntington over the weekend.

Tyler Zhea Asbury, 19, died the night after the shooting. Huntington Police Chief Hank Dial confirmed to WSAZ the teenager was taken off life support Sunday evening.

Officers are investigating the case as a homicide.

The incident started at the Hot Corner Bar in the 1400 block of 4th Avenue. Police say an altercation started inside the bar. The two groups involved eventually went outside. Investigators say the argument later escalated and Asbury was shot.

Dial did not release any new information about a suspect or arrests.

UPDATE 8/4/19 @ 5 p.m.
Huntington Police have released more details about the shooting that occurred on the 1400 block of 4th Avenue Sunday morning.

They say there was an argument between two groups at the Hot Corner Bar and eventually the groups went outside. Later, the argument escalated to the point where one person was shot.

The victim was taken by a friend in the direction of the hospital, but police tracked the vehicle and had an ambulance take the victim.

Police are not releasing any details about the victim at this time but do say they are in critical condition.

911 dispatchers say at least one person is injured after a shooting that occurred in Huntington early Sunday morning.

It happened on the 1400 block of 4th Avenue. The call came in around 2 a.m. Someone reported that they heard yelling and at least one gun shot.

Dispatchers say there was one victim who was shot and transported to the hospital but the extent of their injuries are unknown at this time.
