UPDATE: Homeowner shoots and kills man shooting into his home

SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A man is dead after a shooting at a home along Leonard Street in Scioto Furnace.
Investigators with the Scioto County Sheriff's Department say they received a 911 call from the home shortly after 11:30 p.m. Monday. The caller frantically told police somebody was outside the house shooting through the door and bullets were going into the house.
"They thought they heard a car wreck, and when the lady opened the door and looked out, she saw with a shotgun, pointing and shooting at the house," Scioto County Sheriff's Department Captain David Hall said. "So, when she shut the door, shotgun blasts were coming through the door at them."
Investigators say it's amazing that no one in the house was injured, or worse.
"I guess the good Lord above was watching out for his family," Hall said, "because there's no reason they should be alive."
When deputies arrived at the scene minutes later, they found a man lying dead on the ground outside. That man has been identified as Timothy Ray Carpenter, 25, of Burton Road in South Webster, Ohio.
Hall says after their initial investigation, it appears this is a case of self defense with the homeowner protecting his family.
"It appears to be what they're telling it is so far, a man defending his family" Hall said. "We will present it to a grand jury to make sure we were proper in our investigation."
WSAZ has learned Carpenter and the homeowner are half brothers. Close family friends say the two have had issues in the past, but never anything like this.
"They've bickered; they're brothers," Josh Phillips said. "What do you expect? But for bullets to be flown, no not at all. It's just a sad situation all around."
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A South Webster man was shot killed by a homeowner trying to protect his home, according to the Scioto County Sheriff.
Sheriff Marty Donini says the victim is 25-year-old Timothy Ray Carpenter.
Sheriff Donini says 911 received a call from 11 Leonard Street in Scioto Furnace just after 11:30 p.m. Monday that someone was outside of the house shooting through the door and bullets were going into the house.
Later in the call, the caller advised the man outside with the gun had been shot and they needed help.
Deputies responded to the house and found Carpenter dead in the front yard.
The Sheriff says following interviews with witnesses, it appears the shooting was self defense with the home owner protecting his family.
Scioto County Prosecutor Mark Kuhn has been consulted, and after the investigation is complete the case will be presented to a Scioto County Grand Jury.
Carpenter’s body has been sent Montgomery County Morgue for an autopsy.
