MRC Global announced Tuesday the company is shutting down its Nitro distribution center, impacting dozens of jobs.

Karl Witt, MRC Global Senior Vice President, released a statement to WSAZ saying the closure is part of a company realignment and it will impact 38 employees at the branch.

MRC Global is realigning its Regional Distribution Centers (RDCs) in the Northeast United States.

The company will open a new branch in the Kanawha Valley "to support our important chemical and industrial business." They will also expand a branch in Monessen, Pennsylvania.

However, this also means the distribution center in Nitro will shut down. Witt said it will close in December of 2018.

Witt said many of the employees impacted will be offered jobs at the new location in the Kanawha Valley or another MRC Global facility.

The Senior VP said this realignment will allow the company to better address the needs of customers as their business grows in the Marcellus and Utica shales.

"Although the Nitro RDC will close, West Virginia remains an important area for MRC Global, and our large Corporate Operations Center in Charleston is not impacted by this realignment," Witt said. "Immediately following these changes, we will operate three facilities and employ approximately 300 people in West Virginia.”
