LAWRENCE COUNTY, OH. (WSAZ) - At around 4:50pm Friday evening Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office were called to a shooting in Willow Wood.

When they got there the owner of a hunting cabin in the area told police he heard loud banging noises coming from his cabin. When he investigated further the man says he found his neighbor 73-year-old Curtis Craig trying to remove the underpinning from his cabin.

Police say Craig was armed with a small caliber rifle and started to argue with the cabin owner. They say that argument led to Craig threatening the owner with the gun. The argument turned into a fight and the owner was able to wrestle the gun away from Craig. Police say Craig then tried to stab the man and that’s when the cabin owner shot him multiple times in the upper torso.

The cabin’s owner told police Craig had been coming to his property for a couple of week causing trouble.

The Lawrence County Coroner’s Office arrived on scene and pronounced Craig dead. Craig will be taken to Montgomery County for an Autopsy.

Police have not said that any charges have been filed at this time.
