Law enforcement discusses Halloween safety
CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -From trick-or-treating to Halloween parties, families are getting ready for a night of spooky fun.
But with more children out walking through neighborhoods and more people on the roads, law enforcement said safety should be part of the plan.
Sheriff Doug Adams said it’s important to remind children to use crosswalks when available, look both ways before crossing the street, and stay with a trusted adult.
“Don’t let your kids out in the street to walk, especially in subdivision areas and then try to follow them in your vehicle,” Adams said. “Get out of your vehicle and walk with your kids. They need supervision but never try to follow your kids in a vehicle.”
And the safety reminders don’t stop when the trick-or-treating ends.
For adults heading to Halloween parties or other celebrations, law enforcement says to plan ahead, especially if alcohol is involved.
That means arranging a designated driver, never getting behind the wheel impaired and looking out for pedestrians along the way.
