Nitro Elementary School Pumpkin Drop

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Halloween is right around the corner.

Students at Nitro Elementary School held their annual Pumpkin Drop on Monday, where they watched dozens of pumpkins drop 100 feet from the top of a ladder fire truck.

Students put their building skills to the test, as they constructed protective cases around their pumpkins to keep them intact.

The winner was determined by the least amount of damage after the drop.

One organizer says the kids look forward to the drop every year, and it helps promote creativity and teamwork.
